Twelve women were jailed in Illinois in June for chaining themselves in front of the Illinois Governor's office in their fight for the ERA. Two have been sentenced to 30 days, the remaining 10 to four days in jail as well as $3,000 in fines. Together with the $4,500 in bonds imposed for this action after the Illinois Senate voted down the ERA on June 25, there is now $7,500 that the State of Illinois has already extracted for the acts of conscience of these women. Nine women of the group still face felony charges with prospects of still heavier fines, legal defense costs, and prison sentences. These women need our support. Please give generously to the Grass Roots Group of Second Class Citizens Legal Defense Fund, P.0. Box 2096, Station A, Champaign, Illinois 61820.
